MacBook Air M2 (A2681) Screen Replacement Guide
The MacBook Air M2 (model A2681, 2022) introduced a thinner design with a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display and a camera notch. That thin lid looks great — but it means a cracked screen is usually repaired by replacing the whole display assembly.
Is your MacBook an A2681?
Read the model number on the bottom case near the hinge ("Model A2681"). About This Mac shows "MacBook Air (M2, 2022)". The M1 model (A2337) uses a different, smaller screen, so the two are not interchangeable. How to find your model number.
Signs the display needs replacing
- Cracks or black patches, often starting from a corner or the notch area
- Lines, flicker, or a black screen while sounds and the keyboard still work
- An external display works normally but the built-in one doesn't
Why a complete assembly?
The A2681 panel is built into a very thin lid. A complete display assembly includes the panel, hinges and cables already fitted, so the repair is predictable and you keep the original colour — Silver, Space Grey, Midnight or Starlight.
What the job involves
- Shut down and unplug the Mac.
- Remove the bottom case and disconnect the battery first.
- Disconnect the display and other lid cables, remove the hinge screws and lift the screen off.
- Fit the new assembly, reconnect everything, battery last, and test before closing.
Professional installation is recommended. If the battery is also worn out, it's a good moment to replace both — see the A2669 battery for A2681.
